When I first heard about Memory Care Connections, I was reminded of my conversations with my eighty year old grandmas. Every time we talk, I gain either a new perspective on life, some valuable piece of advice, or a crazy story I never thought I would hear. Intergenerational conversation and bonding is such a gift, and I was inspired to start a branch of Memory Care Connections in my school so that students could have that same experience.

When I was introduced to Memory Care Connections, I was eager to work with them because I recognize that many young people today lack the enriching experiences of intergenerational connections. I was reminded of the invaluable conversations I’ve had with my grandparents over the years that offer perspectives I couldn’t hear from anyone else. These interactions are not only helpful in aiding mutual understanding, but also combating social isolation among seniors and promoting empathy and learning among younger people, which is why I think that memory care connections is a truly impactful program.
